BENEFITS

Riverwood Center is proud to offer a generous benefit package in addition to a reduced workweek of 37.5 hours. We do our best to offer flexibility in work schedules for continuing education and other events that may coincide with our normal business hours of 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday.

Employees who work 37.5 hours per week are entitled to all benefits outlined below. Employees scheduled to work between 20 and 37.5 hours per week on a regular basis are considered full-time employees, however, those who work less than 37.5 hours receive benefits on a pro-rated schedule. Part-time employees are normally scheduled to work fewer than 20 hours per week, and are not eligible for the benefits below unless specified. Temporary employees are hired for special projects or coverage and are not to be scheduled more than 1000 hours per year.

PAID TIME-OFF PROGRAM

  • Paid-Time Off (PTO)
Full-time employees routinely scheduled to work twenty (20) or more hours per week are eligible for this paid time-off (PTO) program. Employees working between 20 - 37.5 hours will receive PTO on a prorated basis. Employees begin accruing paid time off from the first day of full-time employment and may use it as is accrued, with supervisory approval. The new employee accrual rate is 5.77 hours per day period.
  • Holidays
Riverwood Center recognizes the following 10 holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King's Birthday, Spring Holiday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, Day before or after Christmas and Birthday. Our offices are closed these days and full-time employees receive pay.
  • Bereavement Time
In the unfortunate event that an employee's immediate family member passes away, Riverwood Center provides three days away from work with pay. Additionally, paid time off may be used if the employee needs to travel to attend the funeral.

INVESTMENT & RETIREMENT PROGRAMS

  • Money Purchased Pension Plan
Riverwood Center has chosen to substitute Social Security with a Money Purchased Pension Plan, which we refer to as our "Social Security Alternative". Money that would normally be withheld from the paycheck for social security (currently 6.2%) is instead invested in a Money Purchased Pension Plan, along with the employer's portion of the contribution. Employees will have the opportunity to meet with a financial advisor monthly to select an individual investment plan.
  • Deferred Compensation Plans
We currently offer two deferred compensation or 457 plans. These are strictly for employee contribution and investment and contributions are deducted from the employee’s paycheck.
  • Retirement plan
All employees who work at least 20 hours per week will participate in the Berrien County Employees' Amended Retirement Plan. Employees contribute four and one half percent (4.5%) of tax deferred gross wages to the plan. Vesting will occur after five (5) continuous years of credited service.

INSURANCE PLANS

  • Health, Dental and Vision
Health, dental and vision insurance will begin on the first of the month following 60 days of full-time employment. The current employee cost is 10% of the medical premium deducted from the employee’s paycheck every two weeks. Optical and dental are provided at no cost to the employee.

Employees also have the option of refusing health insurance and receiving a stipend - currently $300 per month. In order to qualify for this stipend, the employee must present proof of insurance coverage from another source.

  • Short and Long-Term Disability
In the event an employee is not able to work due to injury or illness, Riverwood Center will provide short-term disability at the rate of 66 2/3% of the employee's base salary. Short-term disability is offered for up to 26 weeks with a 7-day elimination period, at which time the employee may apply for long-term disability.  Long term disability pays the employee at a rate of 60% of his or her base salary.

  • Workers' Compensation Insurance
In the event an employee is injured at work, all medical care and cost related to the injury will be paid for by Riverwood Center through our Workers Compensation program. The employee must report every injury, no matter how minor, to Human Resources. This will protect the employee should the injury develop into a more serious problem.

  • Life Insurance
Riverwood provides $150,000 in term life coverage for full time employees. Additional life insurance is available for the employee and his or her family at an additional cost to the employee. Riverwood Center also provides a $150,000 Accidental Death and Dismemberment plan.
